Meet the Artist

When I view art, I look for the heart and soul of the artist emerging through the brush strokes and use of color. What  captures my eye first is dynamic composition which contributes to the idea behind the subject. I have a passion to express color, form and texture in acrylic, watercolor or colored pencil, and when I paint, I keep in mind what has spoken to me in others’ work.

I have been juried into many art exhibits and have received numerous awards throughout my career. Notable commissions are a large watercolor in the collection of Horizon Bank on display in the lobby at the corner of Congress Ave/6th Street in downtown Austin, Texas depicting the music venues of Austin, and an acrylic painting about the history of Seguin, Texas adorns the lobby of the Holiday Inn Express in that city. I have received numerous awards and scholarships throughout my educational and professional experience. Also of note, two drawings are published in The Best of Colored Pencil, Volume I, I have won awards in two Texas Watercolor Society exhibits, and had a colored pencil drawing juried into an International Colored Pencil Society of America exhibit.

I have been represented by galleries in Tucson and Scottsdale, Arizona, and in Austin, Lakeway, and Bee Cave, Texas and I have been a member of several watercolor and colored pencil organizations. I now exhibit my work in galleries and venues through arts groups in Austin. I am currently a member of Capitol Art Society and Waterloo Watercolor Group, serving in most positions on the boards, chairing and preparing shows, arranging for activities. I am the founding member of Painters, formerly 620 Group, with weekly painting/critiques every Tuesday for the past 18 years.

I began art lessons at a young age, inspired by artist-neighbors and teachers while growing up in suburbs of Kansas City, Chicago, and Buffalo, New York. I have a BFA in Communication Design from Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York, graduating with honors. My work experience includes graphic designer and art director for a printer and advertising/PR agencies in Binghamton, New York and Tucson, Arizona; free lancing in graphic design and illustration; painting murals; teaching weekly drawing and painting classes to children and adults as well as workshops, demonstrations, and jurying art exhibits. I now pursue my painting full time.

My husband and I have lived in Austin, Texas since 1994. We enjoy our daughter/son-in-law living nearby with our two young grandchildren. Our son and daughter-in-law currently live in Thailand.
